Dr. Anne Makena is the Program Coordinator of the Africa Oxford Initiative, a vibrant platform for ‘All things Africa” in Oxford.  A biochemist by training, Anne recently completed her DPhil in Chemical Biology at the University of Oxford, with her doctoral research focusing on  the inhibition of  bacterial enzymes involved in antimicrobial resistance.  Anne has a keen interest in the transformation of higher Education institutions in Africa and in particular exploring the utility international collaborations in strengthening research capacity in the continent.

Anne’s role in the Africa Oxford Initiative includes managing grants to support establishment of new and sustainable partnerships between Oxford University academics and colleagues in various African Institutions.
